A Harvard-educated forensic psychologist testified Friday at the sexual abuse trial of Benjmanin Trane that sexual predators and their victims cross all sections of society from violent rapists to people in positions of authority. Dr. Anna Satler, a world-renown psychologist, author and educator who has spent her entire adult life examining sexual and physical assaults, told the nine-man, three-woman South Lee County jury that people who commit sexual assault can range from family members to persons who are highly respected within their communities.

Two of 10 lawsuits filed against the state of Illinois claim the Illinois Veterans Home knew of the presence of the water-borne bacteria Legionella in its facility by July 2015 and did not notify the residents or their families about the issues. They also claim that when two residents became ill and exhibited fevers, they never were tested for Legionella by medical personnel at the facility.

Multiple lawsuits against the state over a Legionnaires' disease outbreak at a Quincy veterans' home have been filed in the Illinois Court of Claims. The Herald-Whig obtained the lawsuits through a Freedom of Information Act request and reports there are 10 lawsuits.

A third person has contracted Legionnaires' disease at a western Illinois veterans home where two other cases were identified last month, state officials said.
